Wed June 14thRyan Returns From Spain
After Touring Spain with Ike Turner & The Kings of Rhythm, Ryan checks in at the studio and fills us in on an incredible tour! Blowing his horn in the legendary, 10-piece, sound-system of a band, Ryan said he loved Spain, loved the fans and couldn't believe what a beautiful and wonderful place it was. Headlining the stages for the June portion of the renowned Alicante Jazz Festivals was a highlight of Ryan's career and something that neither the fans nor the band will forget anytime soon.
The band headed out to Spain, arriving in Madrid, then travelling South to the Mediterranean Sea town of Benidorm. The band rocked the house, playing at the amazing historical City Hall venue; and outdoor ampitheatre filled with thousands of cheering fans. "We ended up playing 3 encores at this show; they just couldn't get enough, and either could we..."
The band then travelled even farther southwards to Tenerife, one of the Canary Ilsands. Headlining the SANTA Blues Festival was another incredible moment on the tour. This venue was set in an old park, which rested between the sea on one side and the thousand year old cobblestone avenues and shops on the other.
We then headed back to the North, through Madrid, arriving in Bilbao. An extraordinary region of Spain that lies on the Bay of Biscay. You could feel the history and culture in the air, and playing the Getxo Jazz Festival was the perfect way to close off the tour. This 5,000 person venue was just yards from the water, nestled into a valley below an old suburb of Bilbao that was home to houses that were seemingly castles in the sky.
The fans were wild, full of love and life, and made the experience all the more amazing for us.
Thank you to Teste, the promoter, The Kings of Rhythm, the best band in the world, Ike, the badest cat ever, and all of the awesome best fans and friends ever: the wonderful and most lovely people of Spain. Thank you--we love you and miss you already, and we can't wait to return!
